Building on the momentum from our presentation on the role of character in workplace safety at the 2019 NERC Human Performance conference, Applied Learning Science’s Tom Cohenno and Carlos Peurtas presented the first iteration of our course, Character Based Mastery, for a newly hired group of Job Site Leaders for TRC. The character course took place over a day and a half during the larger ten-week Power Academy training (also co-developed by Applied Learning Science!).
Character Based Mastery covered a range of topics related to the role of character in the workplace including personal and workplace mastery, psychology in workplace behavior, and how to harness the power of personality traits in order to strengthen character. The goal of the course was to help participants develop a Personal Development Plan, or a set of character-based goals to keep in mind as they begin their leadership careers. Overall the course was a big success with a majority of participants rating all modules as “Very Helpful” and “Extremely Helpful” and now Applied will begin refining the course to streamline content and widen its application for a variety of audiences.
